Slipped Disc Care in Cleveland
A slipped disc can sideline you fast. One moment you’re going about your day, and the next, a sharp movement leaves you struggling to stand up straight or find a position that doesn’t hurt. At The Joint Chiropractically, we work with patients dealing with disc-related pain regularly, and we know how much it can affect everything from work to sleep to simply getting through the day.
What “Slipped” Actually Means
The term “slipped disc” is commonly used, but discs don’t actually slip out of place. What happens is that the soft inner material of the disc bulges or pushes through the tougher outer layer, a process called a disc herniation or disc bulge. When this occurs in the lumbar spine, the displaced disc material can place pressure on nearby nerves, causing pain that may radiate into the leg. Cervical disc herniations can produce similar symptoms into the arms and hands.
How Discs Get to This Point
Disc issues rarely happen overnight. They tend to develop over time through a combination of factors, including:
- Repetitive bending, lifting, or twisting movements
- Prolonged sitting and poor postural habits
- Age-related reduction in disc hydration and resilience
- Sudden heavy lifting or awkward movement
- Previous spinal injuries
Recognising the Symptoms
Pain from a slipped disc is often sharp or burning and may worsen with sitting, coughing, or leaning forward. If a nerve is involved, patients often experience radiating pain, numbness, or weakness into the arm or leg. Some people also have localised back or neck pain without any radiating symptoms at all.
How We May Help
One of our chiropractors will assess your spine carefully before recommending any care. Dr Jeff and Dr Roberto use gentle, specific techniques that are appropriate for disc-related presentations, adjusting their approach based on your examination findings. We aim to promote optimal spinal function and help improve comfort and mobility while working towards your recovery goals and everyday movement.
Care Built Around Long-Term Support
Disc-related pain can affect the way you move, work, and go about daily life. That’s why we focus on creating clear, personalised plans designed around your individual needs and goals. At our clinic, we value consistency, communication, and assisting patients who are ready to take an active role in their spinal health and recovery process.
