Scoliosis Care in Cleveland
A scoliosis diagnosis can feel overwhelming, whether it’s picked up during a routine check for your child or discovered later in life when back discomfort leads you to seek answers. At The Joint Chiropractically, we believe understanding your spine is the first step, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
A Curve That Changes How the Whole Spine Functions
Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine, meaning the spine bends sideways rather than running in a straight vertical line. In mild cases, there may be few noticeable symptoms. As the curvature increases, it can place uneven load on the muscles, joints, and discs, leading to stiffness, fatigue, and discomfort that affects daily function. Scoliosis can be structural (present from adolescence) or develop as a result of posture, degeneration, or muscle imbalance in adulthood.
Patterns and Contributing Factors
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is the most common form, typically identified during growth spurts. Contributing factors across different presentations include:
- Genetics and family history
- Rapid growth phases in adolescence
- Neuromuscular conditions affecting the spine
- Age-related degeneration in adults
- Postural habits and muscle imbalances over time
What It Feels and Looks Like
Some people with scoliosis have no pain at all. Others experience persistent muscle tension, uneven shoulder or hip height, or a feeling that their posture is off no matter what they do. In more pronounced cases, the rib cage may appear slightly rotated on one side, and fatigue in the back muscles can be a daily experience.
Our Approach: What to Expect
One of our chiropractors, Dr Jeff or Dr Roberto, will assess your spine thoroughly and discuss what the findings may mean for you. Chiropractic for scoliosis focuses on supporting spinal function, improving mobility, and helping manage discomfort, rather than correcting the curve.
Focusing on the Bigger Picture
Living with scoliosis often involves ongoing awareness of how your spine feels and functions over time. At our practice, we support patients who want to better understand their spinal health and take an active role in their care. Our approach focuses on education, consistency, and personalised assistance, helping you feel informed and confident every step of the way.
