Can Chiropractic Care Help If You Have Had A Stroke?

Woman on a wheelchairThere is little doubt that strokes can be devastating. Not only do stroke victims suffer but also the entire family unit who has to care for someone who has suffered a disability from a stroke.

According to the Australian Institute of Health, there are on average 100 strokes/day in Australia. Of those, 40% suffered a disability as a result. One of the most common disabilities following a stroke is muscle weakness and loss of muscle control. Typically it will affect an entire side of the body, making life quite difficult to navigate.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help?

Some really cool research has been done in the last 20 years with regard to chiropractic care. Researchers have discovered that chiropractic helps more than just the spine. Adjustments of the spine also have big impacts on brain function and how it controls your body.

For example, multiple research studies have demonstrated that chiropractic care can help improve muscle strength by as much as 16% on average immediately following a spinal adjustment. These studies were done on healthy patients.

What is even cooler is a recent research study on chronic stroke patients. Researchers measured, on average, an almost 65% increase in muscle strength of the affected leg immediately following a single chiropractic adjustment. Pretty amazing findings indeed.
